Scrappy DIY positivity means letting all the nuts and bolts show through

Meet Christin

Certified Pilates Instructor & Lifelong Movement Artist

Being called a “gentle dictator” by clients might sound odd, but it’s used fondly, promise! I am told that my kind yet confident approach to teaching is especially encouraging to folks who are finding their way to being in their own bodies.

I have been teaching Pilates for over a decade and have studied and danced ballet seriously since I was a young kid. I underwent a comprehensive classical Pilates training program under Master Teacher Dorothee Vandewalle that involved an 8-month apprenticeship to become certified, but my involvement with Pilates began much earlier as a teen cross-training for dance. Several times over the years, Pilates has helped me to recover and rehabilitate from serious dance injuries.

My ability to hyperfocus is my teaching superpower, I think. I am deeply invested in how you learn and process information, how your body moves and responds to feedback, and what it is that you want to get out of your session. These are all elements I bring together to design sessions catered to you and your specific needs, wants, and goals.

Your Local Georgetown Studio

Like much of Georgetown, The Shed is scrappy, with all the nuts and bolts showing.  Being rough around the edges is both its charm and its assertion that you can always come as you are and be on the journey you want for yourself. The Shed is currently the most affordable Pilates studio in the city, and serves folks in Georgetown, South Park, Beacon Hill, and SoDo neighborhoods.

Creativity and Resourcefulness

This is not your average boutique experience, but it is a caring and creative one! From a bare-bones metalshed the studio has been slowly renovated and modified since the beginning of the pandemic to accommodate Pilates sessions for solos and duets, as well as solo and duet dance coaching. Our Pilates apparatus includes

  • A classical reformer imported from Italy

  • Two classical Wall Units, one built by a local blacksmith/artist

  • The Bellows, built by owner, Christin Call, that integrates with Pedi-pole work

  • Smaller equipment like the Spine Corrector, Half Barrel, Foot Corrector, Toe Corrector, Magic Circles, Airplane Board, Breath-a-cizer, and more

  • A semi-sprung floor suitable for dancing

Acknowledging History

Situated behind a rental home, this former metal shed was built in the 1930's and was last used as a workshop for custom iron work by the previous homeowner, a black artist who was well-loved and active in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle for many years.  The Shed continues to reflect the DIY heart of this neighborhood as a movement and art space offering affordable Pilates sessions and dance coaching, as well as fostering the artistic community with artist residencies and events. The Shed is an LGBTQ+ space, a feminist space, a neurodivergent affirming space, and strives for equity in community and business practices while acknowledging we are located on the unceded lands of the Duwamish people.
